The City of Anacortes and Skagit Public Utility District are asking customers to voluntarily reduce water use by 10% as water flow conditions in the Skagit River are low. As Shelter Bay receives its water from the same facility, through the Town of La Conner, we are asking our residents to assist in these efforts.

This is a seasonal situation which can also be affected by low snowpack. This past winter there were almost no snow events and therefore that will also affect water levels this summer.
Ways you can practice conservation:
• Install water-efficient fixtures
• Reuse produce (lettuce, etc.) rinse water for plants and gardens
• Check for and fix leaks (running toilets and dripping faucets or hoses)
• Shorten showers and don’t leave water running while brushing teeth/shaving, etc.
• Only wash full loads (dishes and laundry)
• Use mulch (retains moisture in the soil)
• Choose native plants (opt for drought-resistant plants that require less water)
• Limit lawn & flowerbed watering to early mornings and late evenings to reduce evaporation
• Weeds also drink water, so remove weeds from beds and around home and yard (this also reduces fire risk)
• Do not wash your car at home (most car washes have a way to recycle water)
