Swinomish Workforce Development held a Woman Tribal Business Event on March 28, in Swinomish Indian Tribal Community’s (SITC) beautiful Social Services Building. Christina Adams, SITC Workforce Development Manager, Louise Kari, former SB Board Member and Social and Recreation Committee, and Lisa Versteegh, SB Communications Committee member focused on the benefits of grass roots volunteerism.
Louise offered very sound advice and answered many questions regarding taxes. She brought her experience, as a CPA, with much sincerity and warmth, which made us all feel at ease. The event was very informative.
One of the best aspects was the chance for women to just be together and share their challenges in business. It was a very supportive and easy-going environment. It allowed us to discuss some of our obstacles and victories. Louise helped us come to an even better understanding of many of the nuanced issues with tax liabilities and the opportunities we could take better advantage of. Louise was so kind to share so generously of her time, and we all got so much from it. Both communities may thrive from more of these types of events in the future.
