Whether you ride an e-bike or simply share the roads with those who do, it’s important to understand the rules.
Children have always enjoyed riding bicycles in our community. However, the growing popularity of e-bikes has introduced higher speeds, which naturally raises new safety concerns. Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes are generally treated the same as traditional bicycles under Washington law, and there is no minimum age requirement to operate them. Riders must obey the same traffic laws as cyclists, including stopping at stop signs, yielding when required, using hand signals when turning, and following posted speed limits.
Parents, if your children ride e-bikes in Shelter Bay, please take time to review the rules of the road with them. Help ensure they understand the importance of riding responsibly and staying within posted speed limits. Side roads in Shelter Bay have a 20-mph speed limit, and the maximum speed limit anywhere within the community is 25 mph.
As a community, we want to encourage our children to go outside, stay active, and enjoy all that Shelter Bay has to offer. At the same time, advances in technology bring new responsibilities. By respecting the rules of the road, showing consideration for others, and following our HOA regulations, we can create a safe environment where everyone can enjoy our community together.
