The Lease Negotiations Team, a subcommittee of Shelter Bay Company comprised of two board members and two community members, has participated in more than fifty meetings over the past year, including several with Swinomish Senators and their legal counsel.
In addition to negotiating lease terms, both parties are actively working through key structural issues, such as the treatment of subleases and whether two master leases can remain in place through 2044, when the current lease expires.
The Team recognizes the importance of securing a long-term lease option for the community as soon as possible. While we understand the desire for a defined timeline, negotiations are ongoing and complex, and it is not yet possible to provide a firm estimate for when an agreement will be finalized and ready for presentation to the community.
