Playing mahjong is a popular intellectual and social leisure activity believed to be beneficial to cognitive and psychological functioning.
Whether you are a total beginner, or have the tile game down pat, we invite you to join us each Thursday, beginning January 8, at 2 p.m. in the Coquille Park Building (at intersection of Shelter Bay Drive & Coquille Way).
Mahjong is played by groups of four players seated around a table. Tiles, placed in the center of the table, are shuffled, dice are rolled, and the tile selection begins. In turn, tiles are drawn and discarded to build a complete hand. The first player to make a winning hand of 14 tiles calls “mahjong” ending the game. The tiles are then scored, and the round’s winner is declared.
