Club and Membership Information

The Shelter Bay Yacht Club (SBYC) was officially formed with the adoption of Bylaws on March 20, 1977. The purposes of the club are: "to encourage and develop safe boating practices, enjoyable cruising programs and to stimulate fraternal spirit among boating enthusiasts in the greater Shelter Bay Community." Our training efforts, our social events and our cruises are all geared to supporting those purposes.

September through March membership meetings are combined with dinners and other social events held at the Clubhouse. The events range from fully catered meals to very casual potluck dinners. Informal potluck BBQs are held at the picnic area near the Clubhouse each month during the summer. A full schedule of cruises is planned from April through September. These consist of a variety of destinations and range from two-night trips to weeklong cruises. The cruises are always fun and provide a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and strengthen existing friendships all while enjoying some of the great boating destinations in our area. The full schedule of events for the year is published in our monthly newsletter, the Dolphin. An additional benefit of membership is the ability to stay at participating reciprocal yacht clubs at no or little cost while cruising. This alone may pay for the cost of membership.

This club absolutely depends upon the involvement of each member. For each event, we need people to plan, to set up and take down, to decorate, to serve, and to clean up. We need people to take leadership by filling appointed or elected officer positions. SBYC is a fun organization to be part of because of those who volunteer their time and talents. There is a role for every member, and it is up to each of us to find that role and fill it.

Application forms are available in the Shelter Bay Community office as is a copy of the latest Dolphin. Further information can be obtained from any of the club officers listed in the latest Dolphin. Initiation fee is $100 and yearly dues are only $60.
