Permits are in process for spot dredging in the north basin where shore side drainage has limited moorage during low tides at 8 lots. Final submission to the Corps will be submitted soon. We will dredge by the next window for dredging this season (July 15, 2010 to February 15, 2011). Funds have been budgeted for this project. Once we receive the Corps permit we will put the project out for bid.
The lock for the boat ramp was replaced with a lock that does not allow duplication of keys. The transition went well and we have the name and key number of each person that has a key. Non-resident moorage holders can also purchase a boat ramp key.
The Harbor Committee & Community volunteers removed the old boat ramp floats, cut them into small sections and loaded them into a dumpster for disposal to a toxic waste site. We worked late one night at low tide to prepare the ground for supports for the new floats. The float sections were assembled and launched on the community boat trailer for final assembly. The project was completed under budget.
The parking lot at the ramp was restriped to make it easier to park trailers and accommodate more vehicles.
The Shelter Bay Yacht Club was granted a guest moorage slip for visiting vessels.
The Committee is concerned about the increasing vacancy rate in the marina. An advertisement was run for two months in a regional magazine. We are listed in the Business Directory of this magazine. Seasonal moorage holders are starting to return to the marina. No moorage rate increase is planned in the next fiscal year. One derelict boat remains in the marina.
An underwater piling survey was completed in March on piles located on A thru E docks. The pilings were graded A = Good to D = requires replacement very soon. We have one pile in the "D" category. "C" piles are good for up to 5 to 10 years and there are 2 piles in this category.
There was a commercial operation on one of the docks in Division 5. A letter was written to the violator to cease & desist this operation with appropriate rules quoted.
A break-in occurred on "A" dock this winter. $2,500.00 of electronics was stolen.
We are in the process of getting a bid for some electrical safety upgrades on docks "B" thru "E", the oldest part of the marina.
